Understanding Equipment Certifications

Every machine we sell carries the certifications your country requires — whether it's heading into your home or a working kitchen. Here's what they mean and what ships with every order.

What the marks mean

Four certifications that matter when buying professional equipment

Different markets require different marks. professional equipment ships CE-certified as standard — additional certifications available on request.

European Economic Area

CE Marking

CE marking is the EU's conformity declaration — the manufacturer's attestation that the equipment meets all applicable European health, safety, and electromagnetic compatibility directives. Without CE marking, equipment cannot legally be placed on the market in any EEA country.

CE covers the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC), the Low Voltage Directive, and the EMC Directive, depending on the product type. For food-contact equipment, CE also reflects compliance with food safety material standards.

All Mecivi equipment carries CE marking. A Declaration of Conformity document is included in every shipment at no extra charge.

Quality Management

ISO Standards

world-class manufacturers we work with adhere to ISO 9001:2015 for quality management systems — the internationally recognised benchmark for consistent production quality, process control, and continuous improvement.

Beyond ISO 9001, product-specific ISO standards apply: ISO 22000 for food safety management in foodstuff categories, ISO 14001 for environmental management where relevant, and equipment-specific EN harmonised standards that align with CE certification.

ISO certificates are available on request when placing your order. Specify this requirement in your quote enquiry and we will include the relevant manufacturer certificates in your documentation package.

USA, Canada & GCC

NSF International

NSF International certification is mandatory for commercial foodservice equipment sold in the United States and Canada. It certifies that equipment is designed for cleanability, uses food-safe materials, and meets the NSF/ANSI 4 and 8 standards for commercial cooking and refrigeration equipment.

NSF certification is increasingly required in GCC countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar) for imported foodservice equipment, alongside local SASO and GSO conformity requirements. If your country or import agent requires NSF, this must be specified before manufacturing — it is not a sticker that can be added later.

NSF-certified variants of most equipment are available. Specify this requirement when requesting a quote — pricing and lead times differ slightly from standard CE-only configurations.

EU Energy Labelling

Energy Efficiency Labels

EU Energy Labelling Regulation (EU) 2021/341 applies to professional refrigeration equipment. The rescaled label (A through G, replacing the old A+++ system) rates refrigeration units on energy consumption per 24 hours relative to their usable volume.

The majority of cold line units we source carry Class A or Class A+ energy ratings under the current scale. High-efficiency blast chillers and display refrigerators can reduce energy operating costs significantly versus non-rated equipment in the same capacity class.

Energy label class is listed in every product specification. For large cold line orders, ask us about the annual running cost comparison — this frequently changes the buying decision on higher-spec units.

Documentation

What comes in every shipment

Full export documentation ships with every Mecivi order — no chasing, no extra requests needed.

  • CE Declaration of Conformity The manufacturer's signed declaration that the equipment meets all applicable EU directives. Required by EU customs for import and accepted for installation in homes and professional kitchens alike.
  • Technical File Reference Reference number of the Technical File held by the manufacturer, which contains the complete engineering documentation, risk assessment, and test reports behind the CE marking.
  • EUR.1 Preferential Origin Certificate The EUR.1 movement certificate proves Italian (EU) origin and enables reduced or zero import duty rates under EU trade agreements. This can save 3–12% on import duties depending on your country's agreement with the EU — GCC, Morocco, Tunisia, Ukraine and many others benefit from this.
  • Commercial Invoice + Packing List Itemised commercial invoice with HS tariff codes, unit prices, and country of origin. Detailed packing list with gross/net weights and dimensions — required for customs clearance in every destination country.
  • Country of Origin Certificate A separate Certificate of Origin issued by the Italian Chamber of Commerce (Camera di Commercio), notarised where required. Some destination countries require this independently of the EUR.1.
Frequently Asked

Certification questions answered

Does CE certification mean I can sell this equipment in my country?

CE marking guarantees legal sale within the European Economic Area (EU + Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein). For other markets:

GCC countries (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman): CE is widely accepted alongside SASO (Saudi) or local conformity requirements, but some equipment categories require additional local type approval. Most commercial kitchen equipment enters GCC markets on CE alone in practice.

UK (post-Brexit): The UK now requires UKCA marking instead of CE for goods placed on the market in Great Britain. However, the UK government extended acceptance of CE marking for most categories through 2024–2025. Check current UKAS guidance for your specific equipment category before importing to the UK.

Australia & New Zealand: The RCM mark is required for electrical goods. CE marking demonstrates compliance with equivalent directives and significantly simplifies the RCM approval process, but is not a direct substitute. Importers typically use the CE technical documentation to obtain RCM certification.

USA & Canada: CE marking has no regulatory standing. NSF and UL/ETL listings are required for foodservice installations. Specify NSF when requesting a quote.

Can I request additional certifications after the order is placed?
Certifications like NSF must be built into the manufacturing process — they cannot be added retroactively to a CE-only machine. If you require NSF, UKCA, or specific national certifications, these must be specified before order confirmation. The manufacturing line, materials, and testing process differ for these variants. Always specify your destination market and any local regulatory requirements when requesting a quote.
What is the EUR.1 certificate and do I need it?
The EUR.1 Movement Certificate proves that goods originate in the EU (Italy, in this case) for the purpose of claiming preferential import duty rates under EU trade agreements. If your country has a free trade agreement with the EU — such as Morocco, Tunisia, Ukraine, GCC via bilateral agreements, or many others — the EUR.1 certificate allows you to import at reduced or zero duty instead of the standard Most Favoured Nation tariff rate. Mecivi includes the EUR.1 with every eligible shipment as standard. Ask us to confirm applicability for your destination country.
Do world-class manufacturers provide warranty documentation?
Yes. All equipment ships with the manufacturer's warranty card and terms, typically 12–24 months parts and labour. Warranty claims are handled through Mecivi — we coordinate directly with the manufacturer on your behalf. This is one advantage of buying from a direct-source supplier rather than a local reseller: you have a single point of contact who has a direct relationship with the factory.
Are there certification differences between equipment categories?
Yes. Electrical equipment (espresso machines, ovens, refrigeration) carries CE under the Low Voltage and EMC Directives. Mechanical equipment (mixers, slicers) falls under the Machinery Directive. Pressure equipment (boilers, steam systems) additionally requires the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED). Non-electrical items like tableware and furniture may carry CE under different product safety regulations or no CE marking at all where not required by law. We always provide the applicable documentation for each product category in your order.
